The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus confirmed its 49.5 billion USD deal with the US private equity fund Indigo Partners for the sale of a total of 430 aircraft. This is the biggest single deal for Airbus, making significant success for the company.
The preliminary agreement for the deal was concluded in November during the air show in Dubai. It was then agreed that the manufacturer would provide 274 A320neo and 156 A321neo aircraft.
This is the largest single order that will supply Wizz Air, Frontier Airlines, Jetsmart and Mexican Volaris, all of which are units of Indigo Partners.
Although the transaction cost is 49.5 billion USD, Airbus earlier said that the US investment fund would not pay the full amount. Its final size is not yet reported.
In a separate deal, Airbus announced that China Aircraft Leasing (CALC) will buy 50 A320neo aircraft for 5.42 billion USD. With this, the total number of CALC-ordered narrow-jet airplanes reaches 200.
In the past year, Chinese companies have made a number of large orders. During the visit of President Xi Jinping in Germany in July, Airbus announced that they have received a request for 140 aircraft worth 22 billion USD.
