The supervisory board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG approved the purchase of 27 aircraft for short and medium-haul flights. Thus, the options to purchase twenty-four Airbus A320neo and three Airbus A321neo will be transferred to the status of firm orders.
The adoption of this decision was a reaction of the aviation group to the market development and revenue growth and will allow the Lufthansa Group to provide the necessary size of the air fleet for the coming years. The total value of orders placed is 3 billion USD in accordance with the announced prices. Now the total number of ordered Airbus A320neo and A321neo in the air fleet of the Lufthansa Group will be 149 aircraft, with 13 of them already in service.
“The shipments of the A320neo and A321neo are scheduled for 2023 and 2024. Ten of the 27 aircraft ordered are intended for SWISS, the rest of the aircraft various airlines of the Lufthansa Group. Some of the aircraft will be equipped with Pratt & Whitney (PW1100G) engines, while others will be equipped with CFM International’s LEAP-1A engines, which means that the aircraft from the Luo family of equal proportion both specified engines”, says the statement of Lufthansa.
The innovative technologies implemented in the Pratt & Whitney and CFM International engines, as well as the aerodynamic wing tip provide a significant reduction in fuel consumption – up to 20% per passenger-kilometer. Like all liners of the A320 family, A320neo and A321neo are serially equipped with vihregenerators for noise reduction. In particular, the area of noise propagation during takeoff of the Airbus A320neo is approximately 50% less compared to other aircraft of this type.
