Air carrier United Airlines will reconsider its policy after the incident with one of its customers, who was not allowed to carry a peacock to the cabin.
The woman tried to explain to the airline staff that a peacock named Dexter needed her for “emotional support” during the flight. She also stated that she had purchased a separate ticket for the bird. United Airlines refused to transport the peacock, because “the animal did not meet the standards for a number of reasons, including weight and size”.
“We know that some customers need emotional support of the animal to help them while traveling. Currently, we ask these clients to provide medical documents in advance – 48 hours in advance”, said the company said after the story spread over social networks.
The airline added that they are reviewing the current policy and will soon share updates.
United Airlines is a major US airline headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. It is the world’s third-largest airline when measured by revenue, after American Airlines and Delta Air Lines.
