Officers of the counterterrorism unit of the London police detained a young woman suspected of preparing terrorist attacks at Heathrow Airport on Thursday, released a statement posted on the site of Scotland Yard. A 21-year-old resident of the British capital was taken to one of the local police stations upon her return from Istanbul. It is noted that the detention is connected with the events in Syria.
The document also indicates that law enforcement officers conducted searches at two locations in northern London.
“Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) have this evening, Thursday, 29 June, arrested a 21-year-old woman at Heathrow Airport as she disembarked a flight from Istanbul, Turkey”, says the official statement of London Metropolitan Police.
The woman is suspected of preparing acts of terrorism under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006. The arrested Syria-related woman has been taken to a south London police station where she is being detained under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
London police remain on high alert after the city was rocked by a string of devastating terrorist attacks in the recent months.
